Crochet a Fox | Free Filet Pattern

Say hello to the clever and curious fox! This is the next beautiful design in my Wildlife Animal Blanket series. Known for its intelligence, agility, and graceful presence, the fox is a wonderful symbol of creativity and adaptability. This free filet crochet pattern captures that spirit perfectly, with clean lines and a simple yet striking design that’s both elegant and fun to make.

Just like the other squares in the series, the Fox Filet Crochet Pattern is worked in a soft beige tone using worsted weight yarn. It blends seamlessly with the rest of the collection while still standing out with its distinct woodland charm.

Whether you’re adding it to your full Wildlife Animal Blanket or creating it as a standalone wall piece or pillow panel, this pattern is a relaxing and rewarding project for crochet lovers of all skill levels. As the design starts to take shape, you’ll see the fox’s playful silhouette emerge

Take your time, enjoy the process, and let this clever creature come to life one stitch at a time.

Materials & Tools for the Fox Filet Crochet Pattern

For my Fox Filet Crochet Pattern, I worked with Zeeman Royal yarn in a beautiful beige shade. The same soft, neutral tone that runs through all of my Wildlife Animal Blanket squares. This yarn is a reliable, medium-weight acrylic that’s both gentle to the touch and strong enough to hold its shape, making it perfect for filet crochet projects.

Each ball of Zeeman Royal weighs 100 grams and is about 241 meters long. You’ll need around half a skein to finish your fox design. I love this yarn not only because it’s affordable and easy to find in the Netherlands, but also because it gives such crisp stitch definition and a smooth, even texture.

For the best result, I used a 5.0 mm crochet hook.

Here’s what else you’ll need:
– A pair of scissors
– A tapestry needle for weaving in those little ends

If you don’t have Zeeman Royal on hand, don’t worry! Any similar worsted weight yarn will work nicely. Just remember to adjust your hook size to match your yarn and personal tension for a perfect finish.

Finished Measurements

The Fox Filet Crochet Square measures approximately 30 x 30 cm (11.8 x 11.8 inches), perfectly matching the size of the other animal designs in the Wildlife Animal Blanket series.

Keep in mind that your own square might turn out slightly different, depending on your yarn choice, hook size, and personal tension. A lighter yarn or smaller hook will give you a finer, more delicate look, while a heavier yarn or larger hook will create a bit more size and texture.

There’s no need to stress over exact measurements. What truly matters is the look and feel of your work. Each square tells its own story, and together, they form a beautiful, one-of-a-kind handmade blanket filled with character and creativity.

Adding the Border

To complete your Fox Filet Crochet Pattern, we’ll finish with a neat single crochet border. This simple step adds a polished edge to your project and makes joining your squares together much easier later on.

Before you begin, here are a few quick notes:

  • Any stitches written between { } should be worked into the same stitch or space.
  • When finished, you’ll have 45 single crochet (SC) stitches along each side.

Here’s how to crochet the border:

  1. With the right side facing you, attach your yarn to the top right stitch.
  2. Work 44SC across the top edge.
  3. In the first corner, make {1SC, CH2, 2SC}.
  4. Continue down the left side with 42SC, alternating 1SC in each double crochet and {2SC} in each CH-3 space.
  5. In the second corner, make {1SC, CH2, 1SC}.
  6. Work 43SC across the bottom edge.
  7. In the third corner, make {1SC, CH2, 2SC}.
  8. Work 43SC up the right side, alternating 1SC in each double crochet and {2SC} in each CH-3 space.
  9. CH2, then SL ST into the first stitch to complete the fourth corner.

Once your border is finished, fasten off and weave in your ends neatly. Your fox design will now have a clean, crisp edge. The perfect finishing touch before joining it with the rest of your Wildlife Animal Blanket collection.
