Say hello to the tiger!
The next addition to my Wildlife Animal Blanket series is here and this one truly roars with style!
This free filet crochet pattern is inspired by one of the most majestic and powerful animals in the wild. With its proud stance and striking silhouette, the tiger brings a bold and adventurous energy to your growing blanket collection.
Whether you’re adding it to your full blanket or making it as a standalone piece, this design is sure to stand out. It’s a fun, relaxing project that feels so rewarding as the tiger slowly takes shape in your stitches.
So grab your yarn, pick up your hook, and let’s bring this magnificent creature to life
What You’ll Need
For the Tiger Square, I used Zeeman Royal yarn in a cream/beige color, the same cozy color I’ve been using for the rest of my Wildlife Animal Blanket series. It’s a soft and durable worsted weight acrylic yarn that’s perfect for crochet projects like this. Each skein is 100 grams (about 241 meters), and you’ll need approximately half a skein to complete the square.
Zeeman Royal is a budget-friendly yarn that’s widely available in the Netherlands.
I worked the pattern using a 5.0 mm crochet hook, which gave a great balance of texture and stitch definition.
You’ll also need:
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Feel free to use any similar worsted weight yarn you have on hand. Remember to adjust your hook size to suit your yarn and tension.
Crochet Notes & Abbreviations
Before you get started on your Tiger Filet Crochet Pattern, here are a few helpful notes and abbreviations to guide you through the design. This pattern is written using US crochet terms.
Abbreviations:
- CH= chain
- SL ST= slip stitch
- SC = single crochet
- DC =double crochet
Pattern Notes:
- A chain 3 at the beginning of a round counts as the first double crochet (DC).
- Stitches written between { } should be worked into the same stitch or space.
Final Square Size
The Tiger Square measures approximately 30 x 30 cm (11.8 x 11.8 inches).
Keep in mind that your final size may vary slightly depending on the yarn and hook you use. Using a smaller hook or lighter yarn will naturally result in a smaller square, while a larger hook or thicker yarn will make it bigger. Feel free to adjust based on your project needs.

How to Add the Border
Let’s finish off your Tiger Square with a neat single crochet border. This simple edging gives your square a clean frame and makes it easy to join with the other animals in the Wildlife Animal Blanket later on.
Quick notes:
– Stitches between {} need to be done in the same stitch/space.
– When you finish your border, you should have about 45 single crochet (SC) stitches along each side.
Here’s how to do it:
- With the right side facing you, attach your yarn to the top right stitch.
- Work 44 single crochet (SC) across the top edge.
- In the first corner, work {1 SC, CH 2, 2 SC}.
- Continue 42 SC down the left side — alternate 1 SC in each double crochet and {2 SC} in each CH-3 space.
- In the second corner, work {1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC}.
- Work 43 SC across the bottom edge.
- In the third corner, work {1 SC, CH 2, 2 SC}.
- Work 43 SC up the right side — alternating 1 SC in each double crochet and {2 SC} in each CH-3 space.
- CH 2 and SL ST into the first stitch to complete the fourth corner.
And that’s it! When your border is finished, fasten off and weave in your ends. It is ready to join your Wildlife Animal Blanket or stand out on its own.
